Venetia Norris creates mixed media drawings inspired by nature. Her artwork invites visitors to look at the familiar subject of plants and flowers with fresh eyes. Using just the tip of her pencil, graphite and ink Venetia reveals the intricate layers, sensuous interiors, and textures of a leaf, a stem, or a petal. Venetia sketches wherever she can: New Covent Garden Flower Market, world-class specimens in Kew Gardens or along the banks of the River Thames. She enjoys the spontaneity of drawing on site and communicating a sense of place.
Venetia studied at Chelsea School of Art, London College of Fashion and Sir John Cass Art School. Her artwork has been exhibited at the Affordable Art Fair, Christies London and included in several group exhibitions at the Mall Galleries London. To date she has had four solo shows, the most recent was held at National Trust’s Fenton House, Hampstead, London. She has a forthcoming solo show of work created during a residency at North London Collegiate School in 2015. Venetia completed a residency at Tyrone Guthrie, County Monaghan, Ireland 2015 and has been awarded a fellowship at Ballinglen Arts Foundation, County Mayo, Ireland in 2016.
Venetia has been selected as one of
1000 Londoners, a five-year digital project which aims to create a videol portrait of a city through 1000 of the people who identify themselves with it.
